These caps are measured by either ID (Inner Dimension) or OD (Outer Dimension).
Typically, these are welded to the open end of a pipe or process equipment so that the diameter of the outer edge, or OD is flush with the opening of the pipe or process equipment.
This helps eliminate the risk of contaminants entering the fluid process.
